The State Key Laboratory for Biology of Plant Diseases and Insect Pests (SKLBPI) is the most important laboratory in plant protection in China . The laboratory is located within the institute of plant protection and has been opened to home and abroad scientists since 1992. SKLBPI was placed the top ten State Key Laboratories in 1996 in the first round evaluation by the Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC) with the entrusted responsibility for the State Planning Committee. SKLBPI was funded with 5 million Chinese Yuan from the government for the renewal of laboratory equipments. In the second round evaluation organized by NSFC with the entrusted responsibility for the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2001, SKLBPI ranked 14th place in 56 key laboratories in life science.
¡¡¡¡ SKLBPI has recently made a series of great progress and achievements in the research field of plant protection. ¡°Opening, Mobility, Union and Competition¡± are the running mechanisms of SKLBPI, where there are the cooperative, creative, active and initiative research scientists and teams with the sound reputation world-wide.
¡¡¡¡ The director of SKLBPI is professor Cheng Zhuomin, and the deputy directors are professor He Chenyang and associate professor Li Shifang.
