Weather
May in Beijing is sunny and warm. The average daily temperature is 14 ¡æ , with its highest around 18 ¡æ and lowest at 13 ¡æ .
Arrival in Beijing
The Congress will arrange the pick-up services with a minimum charge at the Beijing Capital International Airport (the Capital Airport ) from May 10 to 11, 2004 . The participants arriving at other dates have to take taxi. The taxi service is available at the Capital Airport during the whole day. The cost from the airport to the BICC or Congress designated hotels is about US$ 15 or RMB 120 yuan, depending on the type of taxi taken.
Reconfirmation of Departure Air Ticket
The departure air ticket (both international and domestic) should be reconfirmed 72 hours in advance. You could make it by calling the airline office in Beijing . The telephone numbers of airline companies will be available at the Registration Desk.
Airport Tax
Domestic flights request RMB 50 yuan per person and international flights RMB 90 yuan per person.
Insurance
The registration fees do not include insurance for the participants regarding accidents, sickness or loss of personal property. You are advised to make necessary arrangements for a short-term health and accident insurance before leaving your home country.
Currency Exchange
In China , only RMB is used. Exchange centres can be found at airports, hotels and tourist shopping centres. The exchange rate is set by the Bank of China, which is now about US$ 1.00 = RMB 8.3 yuan. When exchanging money, you should keep your receipt in case you want to change any RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China . Credit cards (Visa, Master, American Express, Diners Club and JCB) are accepted in many department stores and hotels. It is possible to draw cash from ATM machine by above credit cards.
The Bank of China and most of the hotels can cash traveler cheques issued by most foreign banks or financial institutions. You need to show your passport and bare 4% commission charge.
REGISTRATION
Registration is required for all participants. The early registration form is recommended to submit before February 20, 2004 to allow our delivery of the invitation letter for visa application. Registration without payment will not be processed. The regular registration fee will be reduced by 15% for members of the International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS), whose name appears on the list provided by IAPPS.

Presentation Facilities
Facilities will be available for delegates to access the internet.
Data projector, 35 mm slides and overhead projectors will be available in all conference halls and meeting rooms. The Congress Committee prefers that presentations are made using Microsoft PowerPoint.

INSTRUCTION FOR ORAL PRESENTATION
The speakers' preparation room is No.Y2001 of the Beijing International Convention Centre. If you need to check your PowerPoint presentation or 35 mm slides, you can visit the preparation room. We provide checking service for speakers one day before your presentation. Speakers must finish the presenations within the time allocated. We recommend speakers to copy their documents into prepared computer in each symposium during 18:00pm-19:00pm on May 11 for symposia on May 12, and 17:00-18:00pm on May 12-14 for symposia on May 13, 14 and 15, respectively.

INSTRUCTION FOR POSTER PRESENTATIONS
Offered posters will be displayed within the Exhibition Hall of the Congress Venue.
1. Each poster must be in English.
2. Posters should have a headpart containing the title, author(s) name(s), institution, address and the text.
3. Posters should be prepared beforehand and brought in person by the participants. Do not mail your poster to the Secretariat.
4. Posters must be legible from a distance of at least 2 meters. Headings and subtitles should have the smallest letters in 80-point font (12 mm, capitals 17 mm). The font in the text should not be smaller than 36-points.
5. Use colour pictures, graphs and diagrams in preference to tables. Avoid excessive detail and keep the number of words to minimum. Use only key phrases or points. Posters should have a single, easy to follow message, be readable in a few minutes.
6. The poster panel actual size is 90 cm wide and 150 cm high.
7. Material for attaching posters will be provided by the organizer.
8. Authors should be beside posters for detailed discussion on schedule. Please fix and remove your posters on time as scheduled.
NAME BADGES
All delegates are required to wear their issued name badges at all the time as this is your identification to participate scientific sessions, the opening ceremony and closing ceremony.
TICKET FOR LUNCH
Lunch tickets are available at registration .
TEA AND COFFEE BREAKS
Tea and coffee breaks will be served outside of the congress halls.
MESSAGE BOARD
Message board will be located on level 1 (lobby) of the Beijing International Convention Hall during the Congress from May 11th-16th.
MEDICAL SERVICE
A Congress clinic will be set up in the Continental Grand Hotel at Room 5678. Emergency treatment will be available at the clinic, as well as in the Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital located 5 km south of the Olympic center. Call the clinic or your floor attendant of the hotel for assistance in case of medical needs. The telephone number of the City Emergency Center is 120.
EXHIBITION
In conjunction with the Congress, an international exhibition on plant protection and technology is organized to highlight recent development in equipments, technology and new products in the fields related to plant protection. There will be interesting commercial and scientific exhibits as well as combined book displays in the Exhibition Hall No.2, located on the ground floor of BICC building. You are invited to visit the exhibits, to see the latest products, biological equipments, supplies and books. The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held at the front of the gate 2 of BICC building at 10:30 am on May 11. Exhibits will open daily at 8:30am-5:30pm from May 11 to May 15.
INTERNET SERVICE
Internet services are available in Exhibition Hall No.5 on the 1st floor of Beijing International Convention Center .
POST OFFICE
A post office is located in the lobby of Beijing International Convention Center Building . You may also leave mail at the Front Desk of Continental Grand Hotel and the hotel attendant will mail it out for you.
SHUTTLE BUS
Shuttle bus is available from Beijing Hongxiang Hotel, Foreign Expert Building and Beijing Jingmin Hotel. Please gather in front of these hotels, and take shuttle buses to Beijing International Convention Center at 7:50 am each day during the Congress. The busese will go back to the hotels at 18:00 in the afternoon every day. The place for taking the buses then is in front of the Convention Center. There will be shuttle buses, 10:30 am and 3:40 pm , from Beijing International Convention Center to the three hotels, and 11:30 am and 4:40 pm from the hotels to the Convention Center.
